How does one make good decisions? Surprisingly, or not, it’s not always about rushing into things!
Deciding, choosing, opting, selecting, determining… something we all do every day, whether it’s choosing what to eat for breakfast or deciding on our future career. But how do we make good decisions?
First things first: Don’t Rush Into Anything. We often feel pressured to make decisions quickly, don’t we? But it’s important to sleep on it. Give yourself time to think things through. Sometimes, the best decisions are the ones we make after taking a step back.
Talk It Out. Don’t be afraid to run your ideas by with friends, family, or even a mentor. They can offer different perspectives and help you think through the pros and cons – we all have blind spots!
Weigh Your Options. Make a list of the things you’re considering. What are the benefits and drawbacks of each option? Rule out the ones that don’t fit your goals or values.
Trust Your Gut. Sometimes, the best decisions are the ones that feel right in your gut. Don’t be afraid to go for what you really want.
Plan Ahead. If you’re making a big decision, it’s important to plan ahead. Consider the potential consequences and how they might affect your life, routine, dynamics…
Don’t Be Afraid to Hold Off. If you’re not sure about something, it’s okay to hold off on making a decision. Sometimes, the best course of action is to wait and see what happens. This often seems the easiest when you are a procrastinator, like me.
Be Flexible. Things don’t always go according to plan. Be prepared to change and adapt, even if you did lean towards a different option that hasn’t worked out.
Remember, making good decisions is a skill that takes time and practice. So don’t be too hard on yourself if you make mistakes along the way. Just keep learning and growing, and you’ll be on your way to becoming a decision-making pro!
